 પહેલગામ અટેક પછી જો સૌથી વ્યસ્ત કોઈ થઇ ગયું હોય તો તે છે નવરીબજાર . પ્રધાનમંત્રીએ શું કરવું , ગૃહમંત્રીએ શું કરવું. આ ચૂક કેમ થઇ ? કોનાથી થઇ ? એ માટે કઈ એજન્સી જવાબદાર છે , તેની ખેર ન રહેવી જોઈએ. જેટલા મોઢા એટલી વાતો હોય સ્વાભાવિક છે. ઘટના પણ એવી હતી કે અબાલવૃદ્ધ કોઈનું પણ લોહી ઉકળી જાય. પણ, જેટલો વધુ આક્રોશ એટલી વધુ ભાવાત્મકતા. જરૂરી તો એ છે કે આવા સમયે સાનભાન ઠેકાણે રાખવા જરૂરી હોય છે.   એમાં વાંક કોઈનો નથી. અમેરિકન પ્રેસિડન્ટ ટ્રમ્પ કહે કે ભારત પાકિસ્તાન વચ્ચે આ વિવાદ 1500 વર્ષથી ચાલે છે. તેથી એમાં અમે વચ્ચે પાડવા નથી માંગતા. મિસ્ટર પ્રેસિડન્ટ ને એમ હશે કે આ પણ યેરૂસલેમ જેવો મામલો હશે , હિસ્ટ્રી માટે સાહેબ પોડકાસ્ટ પરથી જ્ઞાન લઇ લેતા હોવા જોઈએ. પ્રેસિડન્ટ કક્ષાના માણસ આવા બફાટ કરે તો સામાન્ય નાગરિક તો બેફામ બફાટ કરવાનો અધિકાર અબાધિત જ કહેવાય ને.   કાલે સોશિયલ મીડિયા પર એવી રણભેરી વાગતી હતી કે સિંધુ સંધિને તોડી નાખીને પાણી પુરવઠો સમૂળગો  બંધ કરી દેવાશે. જેથી  પાકિસ્તાનના પંજાબના ખેતરોનો પાક ઉભો ઉભો સળગી જશે ,લોકોને પાણીનું ટીપું નહીં મળે...

In the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to Kashmir three times. The first trip was rather spontaneous—about two years ago, eight of us friends suddenly decided to go during the Republic Day flag-hoisting period. While the tricolour fluttered over Lal Chowk, a stronger desire stirred within us—to finally visit Kashmir. Within a week, our trip was planned. A short seven-day journey covering Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and wherever else time would permit. Unfortunately, the tour operator we chose was utterly incompetent. One wonders if he had even been to Kashmir himself. He gave us no advance information or guidance—typical of mediocre travel agents who believe their job ends with booking air tickets and hotels. When our enthusiastic group arrived, it was September, just at the end of tourist season. Kashmir seemed ready to retreat into hibernation.  છેલ્લા બે વર્ષમાં ત્રણવાર કાશ્મીરમાં પ્રવાસ કરવાનો સંયોગ થયો. બે વર્ષ પૂર્વે આઠ સખીઓ અચાનક જ પ્રોગ્રામ બનાવ્યો હતો. એ પણ ધ્વજવંદન સમયે જ. એક તરફ લાલ ચોકમાં ધ્વજવંદન ચાલી રહ્યું હતું અને બીજી બાજુ કાશ્મીર હવે તો જઈને જ રહેવું તેવી ઈચ્છા પ્રબળ થઇ રહી હતી. એક અઠવાડિયાથી વધુ સમય પણ ન લાગ્યો અને અમે કાશ્મીરની ટ્રીપ ગોઠવી નાખી. માત્ર સાત દિવસની ટ્રીપ અને તેમાં જવાનું હતું શ્રીનગર, ગુલમર્ગ,પહેલગામ અને શક્ય બને તો  આસપાસ જે તક મળે ત્યાં.  ટુર ઓપરેટર પણ એવો નબળો મળ્યો કે કોઈ વાતે કાબેલ નહીં. જિંદગીમાં કાશ્મીર ગયો હશે કે નહીં એ ભગવાન જાણે . ન એને અમને કોઈ આગોતરી સૂચના આપી હતી ન કોઈ જાણકારી. જેમ કોઈ  મીડિયોકર ટ્રાવેલ એજન્ટો  કરે તેમ એર ટિકિટ બુકીંગ અને હોટેલ બુકીંગ કરી નાખ્યા એટલે એની જવાબદારી પૂરી.  ભારે ઉત્સાહમાં અમારી ટોળકી પહોંચી ત્યારે તે સપ્ટેમ્બર મહિનો હતો. ટુરિસ્ટ સીઝન  પૂરી થઈ રહી હતી. કાશ્મીર પાછું hibernation માં જવાની તૈયારીમાં હતું. તો પણ મોટા ભાગના ટુરિસ્ટ  પાનખરના રંગ અને ખરીદીમાં વ્યસ્ત હતા.  વર્ષો પછી હું કાશ્મીર ફરી ગઈ હતી ,...

આજની સવાર તો જેમ પડે તેવી જ પડી.  રવિવારના દિવસે આખો દિવસ ભરચક જલસા કર્યા પછી રાતે જરા થાક અનુભવાયો પણ દિવસભર કરેલી મજા એ થાકની શું વિસાત?  રવિવારની સવાર Rotary fellowship ને નામે હતી. થીમ હતો મેળો. મેળે ગયાનો થાક લાગે પણ સાંજે પ્રિય મિત્રની Birthday પાર્ટી હોય તો થાક ક્યાંથી લાગે?  મોડી રાત સુધી ચાલેલી પાર્ટી પછીની સુસ્ત સવાર. ને સમાચાર મળ્યા એક વડીલ પત્રકાર મિત્રે આત્મહત્યા કરી તેના. મેં એમને કદી ઉદાસ કે ગંભીર જોયા નથી. હમેશ એક ચિતપરિચિત સ્મિત અને અવાજમાં રહેલો સાચુકલો ઉમળકો.  એ વ્યક્તિ એકલતા અને માંદગીથી ત્રાસી આવું કરે એ વિચાર મને ઉદાસ કરી રહ્યો છે.  હવે રહી રહીને વિચાર એવો પણ આવે છે કે મસ્ત ફકીર જેવા આ મિત્ર ખરેખર મનથી ખુશ રહેતા હશે કે પછી ચહેરા પર ચહેરો પહેરી રાખતા હશે?  અત્યારે એવો વિચાર પણ આવ્યો કે વ્યક્તિ જો કામ સિવાય બીજી કોઈ હોબી જિંદગીમાં ન વિકસાવી શકે તો આ સમસ્યા થાય. ઘણા લોકો સમજી જ શકતા નથી કે લોકો કેમ પાર્ટી Animals કે પછી ટોળા પ્રિય થઈ જાય. લોકોને isolation ને solitude ભેદ નથી સમજાતો.  કદાચ એટલે જ પાછલી ઉમરમાં મ...

After a Sunday packed with fun, laughter, and a bit of chaos, I did feel a little tired by the end of the night — but honestly, all that joy? It made the tiredness feel irrelevant. The morning began with a Rotary fellowship, set to the theme of a fair. And sure, a fair can leave you drained, but if your evening ends with a dear friend’s birthday party, does fatigue even stand a chance? So, after that late-night celebration, today started off a little slow — a bit of a haze. And then came the news: a senior journalist friend had died by suicide. It hit hard. I’d never seen him anything but cheerful — always with a smile, always with that warm, spirited voice that made people feel seen. To think that someone so full of life was quietly struggling with loneliness and illness is... unsettling. It made me wonder: was he really as happy as he seemed? Or was that joy something he wore like a well-practiced mask? That thought lingered — how if someone doesn’t have anything in life ...

આપણે પુસ્તકોના રૂપાંતરણવાળી ફિલ્મો જોવા માટે ટેવાયેલા છીએ, પણ ક્લેશ ઓફ ધ ટાઇટન્સ એક દુર્લભ અપવાદ છે. આ કિસ્સામાં, ફિલ્મ પહેલા આવી, અને પછી પુસ્તક આવ્યું. જ્યારે મારો દીકરો પાંચમા ધોરણમાં હતો ત્યારે મને પહેલી વાર ક્લેશ ઓફ ધ ટાઇટન્સ કોમિક/ ક્લાસિક -શૈલી  તરીકે જોવા મળી. તેના કલેક્શનનો એક ભાગ હિસ્ટોરિકલ ક્લાસિકનો હતો, અને તે જ સમયે , મેં રામાયણને સચિત્ર ક્લાસિક ફોર્મેટમાં પણ વાંચ્યું. એ માટે school ને thank you કહેવું પડે કે vacation દરમિયાન બાળકોએ આ પુસ્તકો વાંચવાનો અનુરોધ કરતાં હતાં. ત્યાં સુધી ગ્રીક તો ઠીક રામાયણ આખું મેં પોતે વાંચ્યું નહોતું. દીકરા સાથે મેં પણ એપિક વાંચવાની શરૂઆત કરી.  ક્લેશ ઓફ ધ ટાઇટન્સ ફિલ્મ 1980 ના દાયકામાં રિલીઝ થઈ હતી. મેં તે કોમિક વાંચ્યા પછી જ જોઈ હતી - પરંતુ હવે મને ફિલ્મનો બહુ ભાગ યાદ નથી. તેથી, જ્યારે અમારા કિતાબ કથા ગ્રુપે ગ્રીક સાહિત્યમાં ડૂબકી લગાવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું, ત્યારે મારા મગજમાં પહેલું શીર્ષક ક્લેશ ઓફ ધ ટાઇટન્સ ઝબકાર થયું. રસપ્રદ વાત એ છે કે, એલન ડીન ફોસ્ટરનું પુસ્તક ખરેખર ફિલ્મ પછી રિલીઝ થયું હતું, જે તેની પટકથા પર આધારિત હતું...

We’re so used to movies being adaptations of books—but Clash of the Titans is a rare exception. In this case, the movie came first, and the book followed. I first came across Clash of the Titans as a comic-style classic when my son was in 5th grade. It was part of his reading collection, and around the same time, I also read The Ramayan in an illustrated classic format. Looking back, those two were probably my earliest experiences of reading epics, and they left a deep impact. The original Clash of the Titans film released in the 1980s. I watched it only after reading the comic—but I hardly remember much of the movie now. So, when our KK group decided to dive into Greek literature, the first title that came to my mind was Clash of the Titans. Interestingly, the book by Alan Dean Foster was actually released after the movie, based on its screenplay.
